Your questions answered…
Q: What is included in the price of the room hire?
A: Each room has a Pearl Masters drum kit (minus snare and cymbals), Ashdown ABM600 with 4×10 cab and Blackstar Artist30 guitar amp included in the price.
There are also five SM58’s, two SM57’s and three BSS DI boxes in each room as standard, and, of course, full DB Technologies PA with monitors (2 x DVX D12 HP, 2 x DVA S09 DP & up to 4 x DVX DM12). All of that runs through an Allen & Heath WZ4 16:2 & DBX driverack. Also mounted in the rack is an IEM system, though we do charge a little extra for hiring the personal mixers for the system.
Don’t worry if you forget your jack to jack lead or plectrum: we can sort you out with those too.
You can also have as much tea, coffee and squash as you like!
Q: Can we hire equipment for our rehearsal?
A: Yes – we can provide a snare drum (£5) and a set of cymbals (£5), as well as amps and cabs (starting from £5). Personal mixers for IEM (in ear monitor) systems are also £5 per unit.
These hire prices are based on a session between 2 and 4 hours.
Q: Do you have different rates for individual practice sessions?
A: Yes we do – it’s £12 per hour and £10 per hour for students. Just let us know when you make your booking. Other costs remain the same as a normal group booking.
Q: Which payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept cash and cards, but we can also send you an invoice or a text message payment link which enables you to pay online.
Q: How early can we turn up for our booking?
A: We try to allow a 10-15 minute grace period at the start and end of your booking; we ask that you don’t arrive much earlier, or leave much later, than that.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: More than 72 hours – No fee; Between 72 and 24 hours – 50% of booking fee; Less than 24 hours/non attendance – 100% of booking fee.
Q: Can we buy spares etc?
A: Absolutely – we stock a range of strings, picks, leads, drum heads, drum sticks and other bits and bobs such as string cleaner and capos that you might find useful. If you can’t find what you need let us know and we can probably get hold of it for you.
Q: Are there refreshments available?
A: Yes – as well as the free tea and coffee we sell cans of fizzy drinks and various chocolate bars. Sometimes we sell crisps too if you’re lucky!
Q: Is it easy to park?
A: Oh yes! We’ve got tons of off road parking, all with easy access to the building. There are also ramps to the entrances for wheelchair users.
Q: What’s Phase 2?
A: In 2019 we will be opening the unit next door which will include an 860 sq. ft. tour production room (with staging, lights, PA etc) and an expanded shop, as well as our new reception area and four individual recording pods. Later in the year we will also be adding a second recording studio, storage, equipment for hire…suffice to say we’ve got big plans. Watch this space!
Q: Why is The Hive Rooms more expensive than other places?
Our building, including the reception/lounge area, studios and the equipment in them are well maintained, clean and tidy and ready to go when you arrive and instead of charging extra for drums and backline, it’s all included in the price of your booking.
We have many bands that come back week after week who are happy to pay that little bit extra for the service we provide; a very comfortable, great sounding, spacious rehearsal room, friendly and welcoming staff and somewhere you don’t have to wipe your feet on the way out!
